Profile of Mr. Krishan (Kishu) Devidas Chandiramani

KRISHAN (Kishu) DEVIDAS CHANDIRAMANI     was elected to the Board of Directors of The Bank of Nevis Ltd in January 2004.  

 

He was born in Hyderabad on 24th March 1942 to Devidas and Kamla Chandiramani.  He grew up in a large family with two brothers and three sisters.  In 1963 he married Sheila nee Ramchandani.  They have four daughters and five grandchildren. 

 

Kishu attended school in Dehradun until he emigrated to St Kitts in 1956 to join his aunt’s traditional general store business.  In 1960 the family ventured into the Supermarket & Wholesale Food Business in St Kitts.  In 1969 branches were opened in Montserrat and St Maarten.  The family business had grown considerably and in 1986 it was decided to separate the businesses.   Kishu kept the St Kitts and Nevis divisions which are now referred to as The Rams Group of Companies.

 

Kishu is a charter member of the Rotary Club of St Kitts since 1969 and served as its President in 1996/1997.    He is also very active with the St Kitts Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Hotel & Tourism Association.  He has served on the Board of both organizations and has been President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry on two occasions. He is presently the President of the St. Kitts – Nevis Hotel and Tourism Association.

 

Kishu is actively involved in the development and the social growth of the society.  His Company sponsors the Under-Fifteen Youth Cricket League, a Basketball National Team, a Netball Team, Tennis Tournaments and the Champion Football Team.  He makes significant yearly contributions to the Religious Denominations and private and public Schools.  He also was a major contributor to the Eye Clinic at the J.N. France Hospital, St. Kitts (now called the “Ram’s Eye Clinic”), and to the Endoscopic Unit at the Alexandra Hospital, Nevis.  Other contributions include the Red Cross Building in Nevis, the Science Laboratory at the St Theresa’s Convent School and the Library at the Basseterre Senior High School.

 

Kishu was awarded MBE (Member of the British Empire) by H M Queen Elizabeth II in the 1999 New Year’s Honour List for his service to the community of St Kitts and Nevis.  He has also been honoured twice by the Rotary Club of St Kitts with the Paul Harris Fellowship.

 

In 2008 he was appointed Honorary Consul of India to St. Kitts-Nevis.
